What is a TOG?
If you see “TOG” on a garment, it simply means Thermal Overall Grade. The higher the number, the thicker the fabric. Our TOG rating guide provides a range of temperature-appropriate combinations and layering options for your baby.
Layering
Our award-winning rompers and pyjamas are designed for lightweight, non-bulky layering and are available in different options depending on the season and your child’s age.
For 0–18 months: The ideal sleepwear is a one-piece bodysuit (also known as a onesie or romper). Our rompers and bodysuits can be worn under a transition bag or the Swaddle Up™, so no loose blankets or clothing are needed. Thanks to snap buttons at the crotch and envelope necklines, nappy and clothing changes are quick and easy.
For 2–4 years: Two-piece pyjamas give older children more independence when dressing or during toilet training. Our especially soft and stretchy pyjamas provide comfort and breathability to help regulate your child’s body temperature throughout the night.
What should my baby wear under the Swaddle Up™?
Our best-selling Swaddle Up™ is made from a lightweight, breathable cotton stretch blend and is available in different options for various temperatures.
In colder months, you can dress your baby in a long-sleeve romper or bodysuit, or a bodysuit with leggings. In warmer months, a sleeveless, legless bodysuit is often enough under the Swaddle Up™.
Layering is ideal for changing temperatures, as you can easily remove one or more layers if needed. Examples of how to dress your baby for sleep can be found in our temperature guide.
What should my child wear under a Transition Suit or Transition Bag?
Once your baby starts to pull up or roll over (usually around six months), you should stop swaddling.
Our Transition Suits and Transition Bags (Stage 2) help your child sleep more independently without losing the comfort they are used to.
Rompers and bodysuits can be comfortably worn under sleepwear or a Transition Bag.
For warmer months: sleeveless and legless styles
For cooler months: long-sleeve rompers for extra warmth
What should my child wear during toilet training?
Our two-piece pyjamas are ideal for children during toilet training or when dressing themselves, as they are easy to pull up and down. Some styles also feature non-slip feet and are suitable for play.
Which TOG rating is suitable?
The TOG rating is a helpful guide for determining the right sleepwear for your child.
In summer, our romper and pyjama collection can be worn on its own or under a Swaddle Up™, Transition Bag or Transition Suit, depending on your child’s age and room temperature.
How should I dress my child for sleep in summer?
Choose a low TOG rating for Swaddle Up™, Transition Bag or Suit in warmer months.
If extra warmth is needed, a short-sleeve or sleeveless romper/bodysuit can be worn underneath.
Thanks to envelope necklines and double zippers, our clothing is easy to put on and take off.
How should I dress my child for sleep in winter?
In cooler months, you can dress your child in a long-sleeve romper, a long-sleeve pyjama, or a combination of a romper and leggings. Depending on your child’s age, you can also pair the romper with a Transition Bag, Transition Suit or Swaddle Up™.
Use our practical temperature chart to choose the right layering combination for the room temperature.
Are there any clothes that should be avoided?
Always follow safe sleep guidelines. Babies regulate their body temperature through their face and head—so never put your child to sleep wearing a hat or hood. Choose clothing in the correct size according to your child’s age and the room temperature.
Do not leave loose clothing layers, pillows, blankets or toys in the sleep area. Always place your child on their back, with their face and head uncovered, on a firm, flat and clean mattress that fits the cot or bassinet properly.
